SURVIVAL GUIDES

“Game Plan: How to Protect Yourself from the Coming Cyber-Economic Attack” by Kevin D. Freeman (Regnery) — Retail giant Target’s recent data security troubles seem mild compared to the threat this author addresses: cyber attacks by nations hostile to America that aim to cripple the U.S. economy, in which individual Americans’ savings, investments and financial security would be collateral damage. And he contends it’s a matter of when, not if, such “financial terrorism” will occur. The CEO of Freeman Global Holdings, he has served as a consultant to the Pentagon regarding that threat. In this book, though he discusses economic warfare at the global level, he’s mainly a consultant for families, showing ways they can protect themselves. He discusses how gold, stocks, bonds and diversification should figure in investment portfolios, avoiding hedge-fund scams, finding a financial adviser and building wealth — all in the context of being prepared to withstand what the publisher calls “21st-century cyberweapons at terrorists’ disposal.”
